"These books, and your capacity to understand them, are just the same in all places. Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing."

wiki ~ Abraham Lincoln

These books ... Thanks Mr. Lincoln ! :) This 'e' book is designed for an exciting and rigorous one full year of study, including many of the main topics of a college prepatory curriculum. Presented in three main sections for a fall, spring and summer semesters, there are numerous links between the discussions within the sections that create 'continuations of essential conversations of next semester ideas', for the more knowledgeable readers here to explore ahead.

First semester covers the origins of our 12 pitches and their evolutions into the nuts, bolts and structures of our Americana styles. Intervals, loops, groups, arpeggios, chords etc., building one into another as the components evolve. This work is completed with a test and measure quiz for each of the 10 topical chapters.

The second semester's work focuses on the correlations that evolve when one of the 12 pitches is our chosen key center pitch. This basis covers near all of our styles.

The third semester is for learning songs and improvisation, reading notation and getting ready for more formal degree studies, such as an AA or BA in arts, music education and performance programs.

Included also are a few 'advanced' ideas taught today at music colleges. Mostly about musical time and mostly applied to blues and jazz, theory and evolutions of chord substitutions, based on the examination of the evolutions of existing art, which creates a new way forward with the same old super energizer ... the arpeggios :)

... why an 'e' book by subscription ? just easier :)

So why a subscription? It's just easier all 'round and way more internet secure for everybody. We each get to work from our own internet devices, whatever they may be, wherever they are and whenever we get curious about our musics. The fee you pay is secured through all your own channels via PayPal, who's been doing this for a while now. And if and when my .com gets hacked again, I just scrub my spot on the server back to factory and voila, back in biz, just takes an hour or so.

And 'by subscription', there's now an added time incentive for you to 'get after it', and read through the basics here. And if my narrative skill is up to the task, and the theory bug bites, your own excitement of learning and discovery kicks in to energize learning this basic curriculum. For understanding music is within everyone's reach, we each just have to find the right combinations of words, elements, and their sounds, to have it all make some sense.

Subscription also enables artists to form study groups, even to start the work together, creating their own cyberschool classroom to share ideas and explore their art. By internet subscription, this becomes a global reach. And there's renewals of course, if necessary. And author amended as necessary, as new discoveries made, documented and added to our dialogues.

~ ... so what's in this book for me ... ? ~

So what's in this book for me? Please answer this initial question by asking yourself ...

'What is it about my music I want to understand ?'

In answering this question, we'll get a few topics and keywords to explore. These become your own ways into this 'e' text. Then just click and read and learn, click and explore and learn some more, then click on back to stay on track. Try these start buttons into the noaudio UYM.

~ about these texts ~

How is this text written? These books are based on the principles of self directed, discovery learning. The musical interests, knowledge and experiences each unique reader holds, helps to locate and create the first steps in their studies within the text. Once engaged, their own curiosities can direct their discoveries through choosing hyperlinked vocabulary words, which are linked together to create threads of discussions. These become the pathways for learning for each reader. as based on their own interests and needs.

wiki ~ discovery learning

This overarching form and word connectivity creates pathways to accelerate the learning for each reader, based on their individual artistic interests. For all styles share the same pitches, some musics just going further into the arpeggios to create a style's own unique colors. A reader accelerates their own learning by clicking 'past' discussions that contain information they already know. By taking the links included in that discussion, we explore how this information provides the basis of other evolutions of other components. Or conversely, stopping along their path to sure up and rote learn that special knowledge needed to create their art. For example, take this link to see this 'accelerate' potentials.

This link of 'scale / arpeggio / chord' has three essential components. Once through the link, if you do not know all three, there are links to review the organic source of each within our silent architecture. If you already know all three, then there are links to advance their individual evolutions. If this all sounds like a rather tricky process to negotiate as a writer of 'e' books, you're correct. It is.

But this educational philosophy of self directed learning just might be a better way forward for some learners. And when combined with my curriculum philosophy and old fashion rote learning, as written into these 'e' books, we just might get the best of both. The ancient ways now motored along by modern tech. These ways combine to capture and understand a body of knowledge, one surely finite in many aspects of its theory, yet boundless in its creative realms, we as curious artists get to hang in :)

In creating this work, and knitting together the story it tells, we need to explore how we create musical pitches. Thus we go all the way back to first Mother Nature and then Pythagoras, and the natural way the pitches were combined to sound good together. Here the friendship of 'music and math' begins, with the early sciences measuring up and organizing of the pitches of today.

And while our main interest is with all things Americana, as we explore its roots, we find ourselves wanting to understand its three main contributors. Termed here as the 'Amer ~ Afro ~ Euro' influences, we find our own Americana music theory survey and its evolutions spanning historical eras from Bach to Coltrane. For in exploring the work of these two musical giants, we can create some Americana library 'bookends.'

In the spectrum of musics these artists created, we can develop an understanding of how our identical music resources, our core 12 pitches, are shaped to create musics of any era, of any style and genre, from the Euro classics to Afro blues and jazz, and near everything in between, over the course of our American centuries.

From the earthly hearbeat pulse of a native drum, the rhyming of songs for kids, the storyline pitches for the telling of our folk tales, to finding the blue notes and the rocking them on, into pop and lyrical hooks and off to 'jazz it all up', we can trace back all of it back to our common roots, and create an understanding of how a musical style, and its historical character on our timeline, are all shaped by the exact same pitches.

So what do you think is going to advance your understanding of music ? And is that info here? Chances are, if you can phrase up your music question with a few musical words, then there's some common ground for us to start and find a way forward together. And to get you further on down the road, your own questions create pathways to explore. Like 'what if ... or 'why is ... ?' All journeys need a first step yes?

~ all are welcome here ~

All are welcome here. All who have a love of music, or even just an interest, will find things to learn and topics to explore further in this text. Even those folks challenged to carry a tune in a bucket ? Yep, everyone. If you love music, then there's always a chance someway for the magic to happen. And for good measure, we've even added a bucket, of sorts, for you to begin with :)

~ give the gift of music ~

~ help someone you know explore their own ways and at their own pace, by their own curiosities, and encourage a lifetime of learning through a better understanding of all the musics we share together ~

Might this book help a friend of yours? Giving a musician you love or a lover a music you know a subscription to this book is a yearlong investment well worth considering. With benefits for all. For there is a span of topics, history, theory, arts, time and rhythms for the learner. And their stories back to you, with their new insights about what they've learned, and where it now may be taking them along in their careers, will bring joy back to you as you encourage and support their art.

For classical artists. There's a series of linked discussions expressly for helping classical artists transition to our Americana weaves of group or collective interpretive and improvisational natures. For there's a 'time riddle' between our Amer ~ Afro ~ Euro merging of aural colors, that once solved, reopens big doors of insight and perspective to create, and even more so perhaps, for those artists already classically prepared with skills, and the knowledge to use them.

~ for home school ~

~ for 'musical arts scholars' that make home and school together ~

Homeschoolers, 7th through 12 grades. For those learners working from home, this self contained 'e' book curriculum begins with casting a wide net for each of our essential components. Titled 'start' pages, we've an easy group of first steps into the essentials. Once there, the interplay of the back and forth dialogue of learner / mentor creates opportunities to hyperlink to a more focused look at a styles' components. our pitches, scales, arpeggios, chords, time, form and art.

Author's note. These start pages are written for younger readers, commensurate with a solid 7th to 8th grade reading ability of the learner. Knowning an Alaskan family of six home schooled kids, it was fun to write about music to young musicians I know. As you'll see through your pre-purchase examinations, there's plenty to start with these younger learners. Plus the 10 written quizzes for closure combine to create a solid knowledge base for the development over the years to come.

That said, the readability of the text, the further we get away from start pages, can ramp right up. For as the theory starts to tangle itself up, its explanations use established vocabulary words that are used universally to discuss these topics. Thus, the readability of the dialogue towards its apex is first year college level for sure. So while there's a solid challenge here to be met moving on down the road, beginning students should have a solid start into this body of knowledge and its essential vocabulary.

wiki ~ readability

Written to be an engaging dialogue of mentor and learner, reminiscent of the now ancient ways of generationally passing along knowledge, hence the parchment paper background, the wording initiates a dialogue that is regularly asking the reader to engage their own thought process in a couple of ways.

wiki - Gradus ad Parnassum

Prompts such as; consider this idea in creating your own art, play this line, sing along with this music, what does this sound like to you, consider rote learning this chart, please teach this idea to a friend, these sorts of questions come up a lot, There's also a half ton of humor and some super corny 'mnemonic devices' woven in, to keep you chuckling along as you acquire new knowledge and rote learn the essentials, to help you bring forth the joy, magic and wisdom gained through self expression through music and art. Written into our learning here too are many puzzles within, that by solving, illuminate the basics of our theory, to a better understanding of all our musics.

In meeting these challenges, we can become better readers of the English language in general. For there's a wide range of expressive vocabulary to explore, and concepts and ideas to unlock. And in doing so, together we create unique pathways for each learner to explore, as they pursue their own musical interests and their muse.

All of the documents in this subscription are completely stand alone, self contained, completely functioning documents. There's zero need to move off this web page for additional information to complete the coursework of this text. If you're only able to work off line from the web, please contact me directly and we'll together figure out a way to get you a copy for home school.

Off to Wiki. That said, included all through the entire dialogue are music and art topics that have a their own page on Wikipedia. And as I wrote this book, I began to link out to these Wiki pages. Research revealed that Wiki rightly frowns on such behavior, so while none of these 200 or so links are active ... they do look like this.

wiki ~ zero
wiki ~ Muse
wiki ~ ______ ?

Click drag click. Luckily for 'we the curious', today's a modern 'e' book's near unlimited learning wizardry has many 'built right in' potentials. One to know is the 'click, drag, right click, search google, and select.' And guess what the search engine brings up first every time ? Exactly, the link to the wiki page of that topic. Selecting the 'blue', our next link offered, top of the list, is the link to the wiki page of our chosen topic. And from there, well, our further explorations know no bounds. This 'click and search' magic works in any and all the browsers. Try it :)

~ about the author ~

Jacmuse and 'Twister' 2015

Author Jacmuse wrote music education texts during a 30 year span of study and performing, research and writing, based on the historical evolutions of how we've tuned up our pitches. And this writing, in conjuction with a focused study of Bach and Coltrane, and the Americana blues in between, becomes the educational philosophy of his work.

For Jacmuse the writer, this modern 'e' edition is a dream come true, for they created an opportunity to write a music educational text that asks the reader what they desire to know that will advance their own art. And by hearing the music associated with the vocabulary of musical terms, fine tune their own pathway to understanding more of the music they love, to listen to, create, perform and share, simply through their own curiosities and the magic of hyper linked text.

Ready to ask yourself ... 'so what do I want to know about music, my music ... ?

That the words we each use to answer become the keywords, that in this 'e' book so written, link up together to create intuitive pathways to explore all through the nuts and bolts of any old same old same old standard music curriculum.

It's exploring what happens along the way, the process of, and new discovery, that perks anew our own curiosity, that gets us onto a lifelong pathway of discovery learning of all musics.

For example, pick one of these common music keywords and click on it, begin reading, then explore the links that come along, as your own curiosity guides your journey.

These keywords are from here linked to various beginning spots of the incomplete, non-audio editions of my books, posted for free worldwide on the web.
